More Chiefs Support Bainimarama's Party

Tabua presentation - Julie Shearer 1980.
Eighteen more chiefs have forwarded their names as a show of support to the proposed FijiFirst party. In a statement following the publication of his proposed party's application in one of the dailies today, proposed party leader Voreqe Bainimarama said the 18 chiefs are among Fijians "who continue to send in their names from all parts of Fiji." "

These chiefs include but are not limited to Turaga Na Taukei Naua , Ratu Ponijese Lou, Tuaaga Na Tui Vuda, Ratu Eparama Kitione Tavaiqia, Turaga Tui Nawaka, Ratu Asaeli Drui Naevo, Turaga Tui Sabeto, Ratu Tevita Susu Mataitoga, Turaga Tui Nadi, Ratu Sailosi Ramoqe Dawai, Turaga Tui Tavua [Vakatawa], Ratu Salesi Baleimacuata, Turaga Tui Na Viti Levu, Ratu Meli Bolobolo, Turaga Na Tui Naviti, Ratu Kitione Vuluma, Turaga Na Tui Vusu, Ratu Siriako N. Matabogi, Turaga Na KaLevu [Vakatawa], Ratu Kini Nanovo Vosalagi, Turaga Na Tui Conua, Ratu Luke Veidovi, Turaga Tui Davutukia, Ratu Emosi Buruavatu, Turaga Na Vunivalu, Ratu Peni Mataitini Latianara, Turaga Tui Nasikawa, Ratu Timoci Koilolo, Taukei Vidilo, Ratu Wiliame Bouwalu Saumaimuri, Turaga Na Tui Vitogo, Ratu Viliame Sovasova, Turaga Na Tui Nalawa, Ratu Peni Niudamu, and Turaga Na Tui Lawa, Ratu Sevanaia Vatunitu Lalabalavu."

"I take this opportunity to thank all Fijians who have put forward their names - whose names were published and also those whose names weren't published." The proposed party's application along with the 40,083 signatures they collected in a 508-page lift-out in one of the dailies today. Bainimarama says he is also looking forward to the endorsement of his proposed party's application so he he could start his campaigning and tell all Fijians what his party is prepared to offer when in government. "I look forward to it because it will give me an opportunity to tell all Fijians what the proposed FijiFirst can offer as a government and it will also give me an opportunity to dispel the many untruths, misinformation and fear mongering - the politics of the old - that is currently being carried out by the existing four political parties," he said. "As I've said, the proposed FijiFirst intends to campaign with honesty, sincerity, with love and affection and without any pretentions."

Meanwhile, Fijians have until this Sunday to submit any objection or comments they may have on the proposed party's application. Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem told FijiLive once the objections are received, "we may ask for more information on the objections so that we are able to assess it proper." The FEO will also verify the claims by "conducting data matching exercise" where they will compare party details against that of the four previous registered parties. "These will then be sent to the proposed FijiFirst party officials to respond. They will need to provide a response within seven days." The party's response will be made available at the office of the SOE for inspection by members of the public. Once endorsed, the proposed party will then be required to inform the applicant in writing as well as the public. The party will also be required to disclose source of funds.

Croz, You may recall in the early years post Franks coup he was adamant chiefs should stay out of politics and look after their people....but now with many chiefs getting behind him he seems to have forgotten all this. Yet another example of rules that suit the moment. I imagine if the unions suddenly decided to support him he would quickly forget his rules on them as well. In the end the only game for Frank is to stay in power. He has done nothing to create or encourage a new democracy.

It will be interesting to see if Fiji1st sails through or if there is the same scrutiny the other parties had to face. I guess it would be a very brave government official or individual that questioned anything. The other interesting thing is will they declare their salaries over the 8 years or what it is today (i suspect $ have suddenly returned to normal levels).

Hey croz
What has happened to the new junta appointee Police Commissioner Yes Man? He hasn't done a runner like Yash Ghai or disappeared in 24 hours like Bhaini's senior member of the junta party has he?

@ Double standards again

No one from the Interim Government will stand for the elections.

Maybe he has offered some nice rewards for those "sitting under the Mango tree".

At least Croz is consistent. Every time I think the illegal regime has gone a step too far and Croz will abandon his position, out he comes with more justification.

His manipulative twists just get better and better.

I know contortionists who bend less than Croz. The other blogs have been posting some good stuff. I check this one out occasionally for the pure comic relief.

A 2009 letter. The party was never registered and is now defunct. What exactly is wrong with adopting a good name that is no longer in use? .

Wasn't he referring to the Great Council of Chiefs? Chiefs who spoke as if they commanded the votres of their people? Isn't this now different where chiefs, while expressing a personal opinions, are advising their people to vote as they wish?

Crosbie Walsh said...

No. He's just arrived. You are very unkind to say Yash Ghai did a runner. He had a major difference of opinion with Bainamarama and left the country. The senior official resigned because he had an undisclosed criminal conviction. The situation for all three people you mention has been covered in the media, and in this blog

As circumstances changed, he changed his mind. Double standards perhaps but do you never change your mind when circumstances change? Note that the FLP and SODELPA are now friendly whereas before 2006, the FLP and SDL were not.

Dear Proessor Walsh. You miss the point. When Aiyaz Khaiyum secretly registered the party name, e-mail and domain name, Fiji First Party was truly alive and well, and vigorously participating in the return to democracy.

That is the crux of the matter; the Political Parties Decree made it impossible for them to register again!

What is the matter with you guys? Arguing with Croz is the same as arguing with Bainimarama and Khaiyum.

Bearing in mind the time at which Khaiyum registered the name, the original owners would have a legal claim against them. In a democracy, where the rule of law exists, they would have a claim.

In Fiji where Gates controls the courts, it would be a waste of money to mount a claim. When Aiyaz and Gates OWN the courts, the claim is doomed before it starts.

I can see the Political Parties Name Decree of 2014 in the making. A large number of these decrees are ultra vires. It is impossible for the courts of Fiji to make such a ruling that would be averse to their ambitions. Fiji - the one stop shop. No checks, no balances, no transparency. Let the dictators will be done (or what Gates and Khaiyum tell him his will is).

Khaiyum is blatantly a despot. His blind ambition surpasses his meagre talents.

As for Gates, he should know better. He is a disgrace.

All hail Frank. FLP and SODELPA are all friends now. What a genius. What next Croz, a nomination for the Nobel; prize for his superhuman efforts towards reconciliation.

Yes. I change my mind. You should change yours too. Your current one does not appear to be working very well.

We are not arguing with him. We are just laughing at the old facist farkwit.
