Solomon Islands academic, Dr Tarcisius Kabutaulaka, who holds bachelor and masters degrees from the University of the South Pacific and a PhD from The Australian National University, is a professor at the University of Hawaii with a major research interest in Pacific governance. It is interesting to note that 5 Pacific Islands are listed among 50 of the poorest countries in the world. Amongst other criterias one is that at least 50% of the population earn less than US$1 a day.
These countries will obviously be targets of Australia and NZ for "lobbying" at MSG and PIF.

Is this to suggest that there is something wrong with being poor? What a big mistake that would be. There is nothing wrong with being poor provided you are not impoverished by someone else's greed and misdeeds. It is being honestly poor rather than being defrauded and dispossessed thatis the nub of the matter. Hence the necessity for accountability and....RESTITUTION. A word scarcely used these days. A word whose time has surely come? There will be no escape this time around for anyone who has misappropriated public money: no matter where that public money hails from.
